Reddit CEO: Google's AI Mode 'Does Not Drive Traffic

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman announced that Google's AI-powered search modes, including AI Mode and AI Overviews, are not driving traffic to the platform, causing a drop of over 1 million weekly referrals in October 2026. Huffman called this a "fundamental shift" in Google's operations, pushing content down the search page and particularly impacting Reddit's international, machine-translated content. Reddit plans to become a "direct, sticky, daily destination" to counter this reliance on Google.
